Category Prizes Awarded at Colorado’s 2020 World Bach Competition
Cellist Zachary Mowitz has been awarded 1st prize in the 'Professional Instrumental' Category at the 2020 World Bach Competition
Cellist Zachary Mowitz from the United States has this week been awarded 1st prize in the 'Professional Instrumental' Category at the 2020 World Bach Competition - in Boulder, Colorado.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Carter Brey and Peter Wiley, Zachary currently serves as an Artist-in-Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
Hosted by the Boulder Bach Festival and open to international percussion, brass, woodwind, keyboard and non-traditional instrumentalists high school aged and older, each category winner will receive US $500.
Recorder player Teresa Deskur from the United States was awarded 1st prize in the 'University Instrumental' Category.
Violinist Katya Moeller from the United States was awarded 1st prize in the 'High School Instrumental' Category.
Viola de Gamba player Jordan Witherspoon was awarded 1st prize in the 'Community Instrumental' Category.
Pianist Thomas Schwan from the United States was awarded 1st prize in the 'Professional Keyboard & Plucked Instruments' Category.
Pianists Hilda Huang from the United States and Reuben Johnson from Australia were awarded joint 1st prize in the 'University Keyboard & Plucked Instruments' Category.
Pianists Anisa Dazhaeva from Russia and Madeleine Hehn from the United States were awarded joint 1st prize in the 'High School Keyboard & Plucked Instruments' Category.
Pianist Zachary Weiner was awarded 1st prize in the 'Community Keyboard & Plucked Instruments' Category.
There was no upper age limit to this year’s competition.
The 2021 jury comprised: Melissa Givens, Terence Wilson, Mina Gajić, Zachary Carrettín and VC Young Artist Jordan Bak.
