NEW MUSIC TUESDAY | Alma Deutscher Violin Concerto in G Minor, 12 Years Old [2017]

The then 12-year-old English violinist and composer Alma Deutscher performing her own original full-length Violin Concerto in G minor.

Recorded live in July, 2017, with conductor Joji Hattori & the Vienna Chamber Orchestra – at the Carintischer Sommer Festival, in Austria.

"I wrote the concerto over some years, so there were different bits of inspiration at different times …” Alma has told The Violin Channel.

“The first movement contrasts dark and dramatic G-minor sections  … I was thinking of an army going to war with radiant D major themes … the second movement is all about yearning … and the third movement is very happy and quite jokey …” she has said.

“I always want my music to tell an interesting and beautiful story, even though the story can't always be told in words … so I hope people will find it interesting and I hope it will make them want to sigh ... or smile, or dance … and of course hum the tunes."

Born in 2005, Alma premiered her first full piano sonata at aged 6, first opera at 7 – and first full length violin concerto aged just 9.

Alma’s 3 hour length opera, Cinderella premiered in Vienna in 2016, aged 11 – under the patronage of Maestro Zubin Mehta.

It was announced in March of this year, that she had joined the roster of Columbia Artists Management, in New York City.
