BBC Names New Generation Artists for 2023-25

The seven selected artists and ensembles will receive a range of performance opportunities at prestigious venues around the UK

BBC Radio 3 recently named the seven artists and ensembles who have been accepted onto its New Generation scheme for the next three years. They are as follows:

  • James Atkinson, baritone (UK)
  • Chaos String Quartet (Europe)
  • Alim Beisembayev, piano (Kazahstan)
  • Giorgi Gigashvili, piano (Georgia)
  • Niamh O'Sullivan, mezzo-soprano (Republic of Ireland)
  • Michael Pandya, collaborative piano (UK)
  • Johanna Wallroth, soprano (Sweden)

The New Generation scheme, which has been running since 1999, provides performance opportunities across the UK for young musicians who are in the early stages of establishing their careers. The artists will receive recital opportunities, as well as appearances with the BBC orchestras, at the Proms, and at renowned concert venues such as the Wigmore Hall and Snape Maltings.

The selected artists will overlap with the 2022-24 cohort, which is comprised of VC Young Artist cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia, accordionist Ryan Corbett, countertenor Hugh Cutting, VC Young Artist violinist Geneva Lewis, jazz pianist Fergus McCreadie, soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, and the Leonkoro Quartet.

"Supporting the development of outstanding young artists as they take the first steps in their career is an absolute privilege for Radio 3: we witness the growth of these performers as they appear on prestigious stages across the country and beyond, and are listened to by millions on our airwaves," said Sam Jackson, the Controller of BBC Radio 3.

"I am sure our audience will share in the excitement as we announce the seven New Generation Artists joining the scheme this year - and I really look forward to seeing how they evolve, push boundaries, and create extraordinary performances for us all to enjoy."
