Canada’s Winnipeg Symphony Announce New Music Director

The Winnipeg Symphony has today announced the appointment Russian-born conductor Daniel Raiskin as their new Music Director

The Winnipeg Symphony, in Canada, has today announced the appointment Russian-born conductor Daniel Raiskin as their new Music Director - effective from September 2018.

"His musicianship is outstanding … his experiences have spanned the globe … he will bring to our stage skills and talent and new ideas that will allow our orchestra to continue to grow in making great music,” Winnipeg Symphony board chairman Terry Sargeant has said.

"From the very first rehearsal, my experience of making music with WSO's excellent, curious and highly driven musicians was remarkably natural and very inspiring ..." the 47 year old conductor has said.

"I feel truly privileged and excited to take on this new role and to develop my relationship with such a wonderful ensemble,” he has said.

Maestro Raiskin currently serves as principal guest conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra - and previously served as Chief Conductor with the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie and the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic.

He will replaced Alexander Mickelthwate - who will step down from the helm at the end of the 2017-18 season, to move to the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.
