It has been announced today that Canadian violinist Marc Djokic has been awarded Canada’s 2nd biennial Prix Goyer classical music prize.
A graduate of the New England Conservatory and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Marc will receive a CAD $50,000 bursary, the production and distribution of 18 classical music videos, a new work commission by composer Matthias Maute - and extensive business coaching.
Billed as Canada's biggest classical music prize, the entire award is valued at CAD $125,000 (USD $103,000)
First presented in 2015 in recognition of a Canadian collaborative emerging talent, the prize was named in honor of the late Jean-Pierre Goyer - a prominent business man and politician who served as the long-time chair of the Montreal Arts Council.
The prize is not applied for, but rather a committee assesses nominees over a period of time - without the candidates knowing they are under consideration.
