Carnegie Hall in 1891

Carnegie Hall to Offer Streams of Historic Concerts

The series begins Friday, May 14, and will continue on throughout the summer

Entitled, Carnegie Hall Selects, the new series will feature free concert films from legendary stages around the world, including some of the greatest performances from the Hall’s history.

Each film is introduced by Clive Gillinson, Carnegie Hall’s executive and artistic director, who will share insights and personal anecdotes about the various performances.

The first month of streams will be a tribute to honor the 130th anniversary of Carnegie Hall's opening.

These first concerts will feature work by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Wagner. These composers' works were among the first to be performed in the hall back in May of 1891..

Future concerts will present the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with Itzhak Perlman, Sir Georg Solti conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Eugene Ormandy with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
