NEW MUSIC TUESDAY | Composer Niloufar Nourbakhsh – ‘Veiled’ for Cello & Electronics [PREMIERE]

Cellist Amanda Gookin performing the world premiere performance of Iranian composer Niloufar Nourbakhsh’s new work: ‘Veiled’ for Solo Cello and Looping Electronic Elements

New York-based cellist Amanda Gookin performing the world premiere performance of Iranian composer Niloufar Nourbakhsh’s new work: ‘Veiled’ for Solo Cello and Looping Electronic Elements.

“This work was inspired by the Girls of Revolution Street movement in Iran ... it was a beautiful and peaceful instance of resisting one of the most prevalent discriminatory laws of the Islamic Republic ... the compulsory hijab (veil) for all women ..." Niloufar has told The Violin Channel.

“This was an intensely collaborative piece with Amanda, and I was so lucky to have such an eager and experimental musician willing to try new grounds with me ..." she has said.

“I hope that through listening to this work people may find inspiration in the resilience of Iranian women.”

Recorded live on the 20th of March, 2019 - at the National Sawdust, in Brooklyn.
