Acclaimed Italian conductor Claudio Abbado was born on this day in 1933.
Maestro Abbado is widely regarded as one of the pre-eminent conductors of the 20th and 21st centuries – having served Principal Conducting positions with La Scala Opera House, London Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Vienna State Opera and the Berlin Philharmonic.
He passed away in January, 2014 – aged 80.
