British conductor, harpsichordist and composer Raymond Leppard has passed away - aged 92
British conductor, harpsichordist and composer Raymond Leppard has passed away, in Indianapolis, United States - aged 92.
Mr Leppard served as long time Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony - and throughout his career led performances with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Israel Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony.
In 1983, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elisabeth II - in recognition on his services to music.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of our Conductor Laureate, Maestro Raymond Leppard ..." Indianapolis Symphony Music Director, Krzysztof Urbański has this week said.
"He uplifted the ISO with striking artistic insight and inspiration - and touched so many people through his love and stewardship of classical music," he has said.
