Germany's 2017 Echo Klassik Recording Industry Accolades Awarded

The 53 prize recipients at the 2017 Echo Klassik European recording industry awards have this week been announced

The 53 prize recipients at the 2017 Echo Klassik European recording industry awards have this week been announced – including violinists Christian Tetzlaff, Daniel Hope, Renaud Capuçon, Linus Roth and Henning Kraggerud, VC Artists Notos Quartett and cellist Johannes Moser.

Awarded by the German Music Industry Association, the Deutsche Phono-Akademie, the annual awards honour outstanding and successful German national and international recorded performances.

The ‘Violin Instrumentalist of the Year’ accolade was awarded to German virtuoso Christian Tetzlaff - for his recording of Brahms' Violin Sonatas, with pianist Lars Vogt, on the Ondine/Naxos label.

The ‘Cello Instrumentalist of the Year’ accolade was awarded to German-Canadian cellist Johanes Moser - for his recording of 'Rachmaninoff/Prokofiev: Works for Cello and Piano', with pianist Andrei Korobeinikov, on the Pentatone/Naxos label.

The 'Mixed Ensemble Newcomer of the Year’ accolade was awarded to the VC Artists Notos Quartett, for their release of ‘Hungarian Treasures - Bartók, Dohnányi, Kodály’ - on the RCA Red Label.

‘Classical Without Borders’ accolades were awarded to The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic for their Sony Classical ‘Hora Cero’ release - and to violinist Daniel Hope for his 'For Seasons' release on Deutsche Grammophon.

Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud was awarded the 'Concert Recording of the Year' for music up to and including the 18th Century, for his release of Mozart's 3rd, 4th and 5th Violin Concertos, with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra on the Naxos label.

German violinist Linus Roth was awarded the '19th Century Concert Recording of the Year' for his recording of Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky Violin Concertos with conductor Thomas Sanderling and the London Symphony Orchestra on the Challenge Classics label.

’20th/21st Century Music Concert Recording of the Year’ was awarded to violinist Renaud Capuçon for his recording of '21st Century Violin Concertos' with conductors Philippe Jordan and Myung-Whun Chung on the Erato label.

The ‘Best Selling CD of the Year’ was awarded to German opera singer Jonas Kaufmann for his ‘Dolce Vita' release – under the Sony Classical label.
