German composer and music publisher Franz Anton Hoffmeister died on this day in 1812 – 207 years ago.
Hoffmeister's major contributions to the string repertoire include: 15 string quartets, 6 violin caprices, 12 viola etudes – and a viola concerto.
He was a founding partner in the publishing firm Bureau de Misque – still active today as Edition Peters Group.
