NEW MUSIC TUESDAY | Frédéric Kummer & François Schubert - "Duo for Violin & Cello" [WORLD PREMIERE RECORDING]

The world premiere recording of 'Duo Concertante No. 1' by German composers Frédéric Kummer (1797-1879) & François Schubert (1808-1878)

Presenting the world premiere recording of 'Duo Concertante No. 1 for Violin and Cello' by German composers Frédéric Kummer (1797-1879) & François Schubert (1808-1878).

Whilst little details are known about the 10 minute virtuosic chamber work’s original premiere, scholars have suggested thematic inspiration was taken from the opera ‘Zampa’ by Louis Joseph Ferdinand Hérold (1791–1833).

The project to re-introduce the work begun in 2013 after violin and cello duo Friedemann Eichhorn and Alexander Hülshoff discovered the lost gem in a collector's archive.

“We believe this is the first ever recording of this magnificently fun duo piece … it was such a joy to have discovered such a brilliant chamber music work with no traditional interpretation ... it felt so fresh,” Friedemann has said.
