Glyndebourne Festival Appoints New Principal Conductor of Glyndebourne Sinfonia
Adam Hickox will lead the autumn productions and concerts at the opera house
The Glyndebourne Sinfonia is the resident orchestra for the opera house's autumn program of opera and concerts.
Born in 1996, their newest leader Adam Hickox studied music and composition with Robin Holloway at the University of Cambridge, and conducting with Sian Edwards at the Royal Academy of Music.
He then took a post as Assistant Conductor at the Rotterdam Philharmonic, where he worked under Lahav Shani.
In recent seasons, Hickox has made debuts with Orchestre de Paris, BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC Symphony, the Ulster Orchestra, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, among others. He has also conducted Tosca at Opera North and Hansel and Gretel at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire.
Hickox made his Glyndebourne debut in 2023, conducting Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, and held an assistant conductor position in Glyndebourne in 2022.
"This appointment is a great honor," Hickox said. "Being part of the Glyndebourne family is truly a dream come true, and I can’t wait to deepen my relationship with the fantastic orchestra and the Glyndebourne Chorus over the coming seasons."
"I felt an immediate click with the orchestra from the first rehearsal, and every time I step into the pit, I am excited to work with them once again."
