32-year-old Grace Park from the United States has been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Naumburg International Violin Competition – in New York City.
A graduate of the New England Conservatory, where she studied with Donald Weilerstein and Miriam Fried, Grace's recent performances include debuts with the North Czech Philharmonia, Russian Chamber Philharmonic and the Orlando Philharmonic.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Shannon Lee from the United States and Danbi Um from South Korea.
Open to international violinists aged 18 and 32, Grace will receive USD $25,000, two fully subsidized New York City recitals – plus a commissioned work by acclaimed Argentine-American composer, Mario Davidovsky.
This year’s jury comprised: Glenn Dicterow, Ani Kavafian, Masao Kawasaki, Nicholas Mann, Elmar Oliveira, Peter Oundjian, Mark Steinberg and Kathleen Winkler.
Previous 1st prize winners include: Louis Kaufman, Robert Mann, Berl Senofsky, Joseph Silverstein, Elmar Oliveira, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Leonidas Kavakos, Axel Strauss, Frank Huang and VC Artist Tessa Lark.
