New World Record Set For Sale of a Guadagnini Violin at Auction
Tarisio has announced the $2.1 Million sale of the ‘Sinzheimer’ Guadagnini violin – the highest price ever paid at auction for a instrument by the maker
Tarisio Auctions in London has today announced the £1,587,000 (US $2,105,305) sale of the 1773-75 ‘Sinzheimer’ Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin – the highest price ever paid at auction for a instrument by the maker.
The instrument came with a 1937 certification from expert Fridolin Hamma - suggesting the violin had at one stage been played by famed pedagogue Carl Flesch.
The previous auction record for a Guadagnini violin was the 1778 'Dorothy DeLay' Guadagnini - sold in 2013 by Tarisio for US $1.39 Million.
The 'Havemeyer' Guadagnini cello was sold at auction by Tarisio in 2016 - for just over $1.5 Million.
