24-year-old Ming Liu from China has this week been awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Harbin International Violin Competition – in Harbin, China.
A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory, where she studied with this year's competition jury chair Vera Tsu Weiling, Ming is a former prize winner at the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 22-year-old Angela Sin Ying Chan from China/Hong Kong - and 21-year-old Haram Kim from South Korea.
Open to international violinists between the ages of 18 and 36 years old, Ming will receive $50,000 USD.
The 2019 jury comprised: Vera Tsu Weiling (Chair), Liang Danan, Zakhar Bron, Mikhail Gantvarg, Sreten Krstić, Boris Kuschnir, Michael Ma and Joel Smirnoff.
Hosted by the Conservatory of Music in Harbin, this year's competition was held in four categories - Violin, Piano, Voice and Composition.
Previous 1st prize winners include: violinist, VC Young Artist Nancy Zhou.
