Chicago Symphony to Host "Notes for Peace Celebration" in March 2024
The concert, which will feature violinist Hilary Hahn, will benefit a Chicago initiative that supports families who have lost loved ones to gun violence
On March 19, 2024, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will host a concert in support of local charity Notes for Peace. Conducted by Kyle Dickson, and featuring violinist Hilary Hahn, the concert will also feature the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, musicians from the Irene Taylor Trust, vocalists Journey Allison, Leah Dexter, Meagan McNeal, Sarah Ponder, Sarah Vander Ploeg, and Simbryt Wittington Dortch.
Notes for Peace was launched in 2018 and supports Chicago families who have lost loved ones to gun violence in the city. The organization has a strong focus on music as a tool for healing and encourages families to compose, record, and perform original songs of tribute.
The initiative was the brainchild of Yo-Yo Ma, who in 2018 was serving as the Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant to the CSO. So far, nearly 100 songs have been written as part of the project, and the 100th song will receive its premiere at the concert on March 19.
The concert follows a "pay what you wish" model, meaning that attendees can choose any amount between $1 and $100 for entry to the performance. Patrons can also opt for a VIP package that includes a reception with Hilary Hahn.
