International Classical Music Awards Announces Nominations
Out of the 377 recordings, ICMA will announce the winners in January 2022
The International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) announced the full list of nominees to potentially receive an award in its 2022 ceremony.
In order to receive a place on the shortlist, a recording must be nominated by at least two members of the jury. The label to receive the most nominations was Alpha, while BIS and Naxos were not far behind.
In the Concerto Category, nominees include Frank Peter Zimmermann for his recording of concerti by Beethoven, Berg, and Bartok — while Vadim Gluzman also received a place on the list for his recording of concerti by Beethoven and Schnittke.
While some of the categories are standard, such as Symphonic Music and Chamber Music, there are also some special interest categories. For instance, the Historical Recording shortlist includes archival audio of George Szell conducting the Cleveland Orchestra. World Premiere recordings of newly rediscovered works are also included.
The winners will be announced in January 2022, and then honored at an awards ceremony on April 21, to take place in the Luxembourg Philharmonie. The ceremony will double as a gala concert, in which the Luxembourg Philharmonic will be conducted by one of the award recipients.
