Russian Cellist Awarded 1st Prize at New York’s Naumburg Competition

25 year old Russian cellist Lev Sivkov has been awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Naumburg International Cello Competition, in New York.

A student of Jean-Guihen Queyras, at the Freiburg Music Academy, Lev will receive US $15,000 - plus a number of prestigious New York recital opportunities.

Joint 2nd prizes were awarded to 26 year old Jay Campbell and 21 year old Brannon Cho.

Honorable mentions were given to 27 year old Jee Hay Bae and 18 year old Jonathan Roozeman.

This year’s jury comprised: Nicholas Mann, David Geber, Natasha Brofsky, Thomas Demenga, Norman Fischer, Bonnie Hampton, Marta Casals Istomin, Michael Kannen, Hei Yi Nei, and Richard Wernick.

The Walter W. Naumburg Foundation was founded in 1926 to assist gifted young musicians in the United States.
