Prizes Announced at Australian ‘Young Performer of the Year’ Awards

24 year old clarinetist Lloyd Van’t Hoff has been announced as the 2015 ABC Symphony Australia ‘Young Performer of the Year’.

Regarded as Australia’s most important classical music prize for instrumentalists 30 years and younger, previous winners include international string soloists Adele Anthony and Li-Wei Qin – and VC ‘Young Artists’ Suyeon Kang and Grace Clifford.

A student of David Thomas at the Australian National Academy of Music, Lloyd will receive AUD $25,000 (US $18,000), a CD recording and a number of important solo engagements.

$10,000 cash prizes were awarded to finalists 17 year old violinist Lily Higson-Spence and 26 year old violist Christopher Cartlidge.

The Nelly Apt Scholarship, to be used to attend the International Summer Mastercourse at the Keshet Eilon Music Centre in Israel, was awarded to violinist Lily Higson-Spence.

The $6,000 cash prize for the ‘Best Recital’ in the opening round was awarded to violinist Lily Higson-Spence.

The $6,000 cash prize for the ‘Best Chamber Music Performance’ in the second round was awarded to violist Christopher Cartlidge.

The $6,000 cash prize for the ‘Best Performance of an Australian Work’ in the opening round was awarded to Christopher Cartlidge.
