Elusive Mozart Piano Sonata Manuscript Found in Hungarian Library Archives

The priceless, original score to Mozart's celebrated Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major, including fragments of the famed 'Rondo alla Turca' final movement, has been unearthed in the archives of the Budapest National Szechenyi Library.

“When I first laid eyes upon the manuscript, the handwriting already looked suspiciously "Mozartish" … then I started reading the notes and realised it was the famous A Major Sonata,’ Musicologist Balazs Mikusi, Head of the Library's music collection has told the Agence France Presse.

It is understood a number of prominent international Mozart scholars have verified it as the genuine article, believed written around 1783 – however it is unknown how the manuscript, most probably composed in Vienna or Salzburg, found its way to Hungary.

The manuscript is said to be remarkably similar to what pianists perform today - baring a few subtle rhythmic and note differences.
