Austria's Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg Announces New Chief Conductor

38 year old Italian violinist and conductor Riccardo Minasi has been appointed as the new Chief Conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg

It has been announced today that 38 year old Italian violinist and conductor Riccardo Minasi has been appointed as the new Chief Conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg - effective from September 2017.

“With Riccardo Minasi we have a conductor, a violinist, a musicologist and an extraordinary musician who came from baroque music but whose repertoire now reaches well into the 20th century and beyond …” Orchestra Managing Director Thomas Wolfram has said.

“We have found him, our new Chief!” he has exclaimed.

Founded in 1841 with the help of Mozart’s son and widow, the ensemble is widely regarded as one of Austria’s leading symphonic ensembles.

Minasi will succeed conductor Ivor Boton - who has served the roles since 2004.
