Composer Michi Wiancko — “To Unpathed Waters, Undreamed Shores” [WORLD PREMIERE]
The Jupiter String Quartet performing the world premiere of American composer Michi Wiancko’s “Unpathed Waters, Undreamed Shores”
“My original idea for this work was developed collaboratively with the Jupiter Quartet. We agreed that it was both a challenging and a crucial time to bring new art and music into the world that was in direct response to some of the issues we are facing as a global population. We wanted to create new work that could serve as inspiration to the youth population who are learning about the world, about social justice and the issues around climate change, and who are applying their energy and talents towards bringing about change,” Michi Wiancko told the Violin Channel.
"Making new work during a global pandemic has some very real, very tangible challenges, especially as a parent. But it was also quite an energizing project that helped me feel connected to other artists, and ultimately, to the world.”
“I hope that this piece will help listeners to shine an emotional light on what they are feeling and living with in the world today - the anxieties, the hope, the despair, the resistance fatigue, the pockets of joy - and perhaps serve as just a small, temporary space in which those feelings can be experienced collectively.”
Michi worked with the Jupiter Quartet and lead commissioner and creative thought partner, Manuel Bagorro from Portland's Bay Chamber Concerts.
Recorded live on August 6th, 2020.
