OUT NOW | VC Artist Bomsori Kim's New CD: "Violin on Stage"
"I wanted to bring that special spirit of poetry and drama to listeners through my instrument, which can sing freely in these wonderful pieces”
Deutsche Grammophon announced the release of violinist Bomsori Kim's new album: "Violin on Stage."
Recorded with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic and its Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero, the album features works by Wieniawski, Tchaikovsky, Waxman, Gluck, Massenet, and Saint-Saëns.
"The album 'Violin on Stage' is about music for opera and ballet," Bomsori told The Violin Channel.
"I always thought that whichever instruments, especially the violin, should be trying to sing like the human voice and dance like the pulse of our heartbeat. These two elements cannot be neglected or separated and are the most essential components in music for me.
"The repertoire I chose is deeply related to these two themes, arranged or composed for violin and orchestra. The operatic repertoire gives perfect opportunity to sing through the instrument, which in turn allows me to achieve utmost freedom in expressing myself through the violin.
"The process of recording an album during the pandemic was totally dramatic. We had to postpone quite a few times because of the unstable situation. When we were finally allowed to make music together, people who were involved in this project were totally enthusiastic and the musicians played like it was the last day of their lives. We were so desperate to make music and share it with people.
"I hope listeners will feel all the energy, passion, and love we felt during the recording sessions. I can proudly say that this is why all the tracks of the album sound so vivid, like listening to a live concert."
