OUT NOW | Karolina Errera Releases "Songs of Rain"

The album features works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Dowland, Britten, Prokofiev, and Brahms

Leipzig-based GENUIN announced the release of violist Karolina Errera's debut album, "Songs of Rain," alongside pianist Lilit Grigoryan.

The album features a wide range of original works and arrangements, including Tchaikovsky's Romances Op. 6, Rachmaninov's Songs Op. 4, Dowland's First Booke of Songes,  Britten's Lachrymae for viola & piano, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Op. 64, Brahms' Lieder und Gesänge Op. 59 and Violin Sonata No. 1 in G major, Op. 78.

"The sound of raindrops, perhaps the warm ones in the summer, can be so enjoyable, soothing, atmospheric, give space for reflection," Errera told The Violin Channel. "For my first album, I wanted to find music that could resonate with that atmosphere, be emotional, poetic and introverted in the best way. Johannes Brahms’ Sonata op.78 — which is based on his “Regenlied” or the “Rain Song” op. 59 — was the initial inspiration for the repertoire to be built on the theme of Rain and Song."

From there, the duo explored the possibilities of vocal music through a viola and piano duo.

"The common quality for the works on this CD is that it tells a story that I believe each human can connect with," she added. "I hope that the listeners will feel that they can come back to this recording anytime they wish to feel comforted or seek for a particular atmosphere."

Regarded by Tabea Zimmerman to have "a rare gift of combining her wonderful musical talents with an outstandingly good taste and a humble and modest personality that is not so common nowadays," violist Karolina Errera is a prizewinner of several major international competitions, including the Yuri Bashmet Competition and Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition. She has played in venues such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, and the Berlin Philharmonie. A graduate of the Berlin University of the Arts, followed by studies at Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, Errera  currently studies at the Kronberg Academy.
