OUT NOW | Augusta McKay Lodge's New CD: "Corelli's Band"
Recorded with violone player Doug Balliett, cellist Ezra Seltzer, theorbo and baroque guitarist Adam Cockerham, and harpsichord player Elliot Figg, the disc features sonatas by Corelli, Carbonelli, and Bossi
Naxos Records announced the release of American violinist Augusta McKay Lodge's new album: "Corelli's Band."
The disc presents Corelli's Violin Sonata Op. 5 No. 3 in C major, Mossi's Violin Sonata in E minor Op. 6 No. 9, Violin Sonata in D minor, Op. 1 No. 1 and Violin Sonata in G major, Op. 1 No. 3, and Carbonelli's Violin Sonata No. 10 in G minor and Violin Sonata No. 9 in E minor.
"I had long been fascinated by the violin sonatas of Giovanni Mossi," said Lodge. "I fell upon his Op. 1 one day and I thought, 'Wait a minute, this music looks and sounds like Corelli (the famous baroque composer). Why haven't I heard of it?' Shortly after, I was introduced to Carbonelli as well, and since both composers were very likely students of Corelli, I had this idea to make a disc centered around the three."
