Pedagogue Robin Wilson to Leave Australian National Academy of Music

Upon stepping down at the end of this year, he will be taking up positions in London from January 2023

At the start of next year, pedagogue and violinist Robin Wilson will become the Professor of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music and Professor of Violin at the Yehudi Menuhin School.

He takes these positions after serving as a resident violin faculty member at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in Melbourne, Australia, for nine years.

"While I'm excited for the challenges and experiences ahead, it's incredibly sad to leave such a unique and inspiring institution," Wilson writes on social media. "In my nine years at ANAM, I've had the privilege to be surrounded by truly extraordinary colleagues whom I have learnt from constantly, talented young musicians brimming with passion and dedication, visionary leadership, and devoted staff. ANAM is a place where lives transform, mine included, and it's been a tremendous honour to have been part of it. I'm looking forward to seeing it continue to flourish in the years to come. My heartfelt thanks to everyone there for such a wonderfully special time."

In 2018, Wilson received a National Award from the Australian String Teachers Association for outstanding services to the string community in Australia.

Wilson's students include 2018 Menuhin Competition Junior Division first prize winner, Christian Li, 2017 Australian National Youth Concerto Competition first prize winner, Yebin Yoo, and 2014 and 2018 Australian "Young Performer of the Year" recipients, violinists Grace Clifford and Emily Sun.

He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Sydney in the historically informed performance of Brahms' music and has previously held appointments as Lecturer in Violin and Pedagogy at the University of Sydney and the Australian Institute of Music, String Pedagogy Fellow at the University of Queensland, and faculty member at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

As a member of the historical performance ensemble Ironwood and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s flagship ensemble, the Australian Octet, he regularly tours nationally and internationally.
