Oregon's Portland Opera Appoints New Director of Artistic Planning and Operations
Arts executive and soprano Alfrelynn Roberts will step into the role
Arts executive and soprano Alfrelynn Roberts comes to the new position at the Portland Opera from Texas' Fort Worth Opera, where she balanced the roles of Associate Artistic Director and Chorus Master.
As a soprano, Roberts has performed with Opera Grand Rapids, the Michigan Opera Theater, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Kalamazoo Civic Theater.
She is also a prolific choral conductor and has been the artistic director of the South Dallas Concert Choir for the last four seasons.
Alongside this work, Roberts also provides vocal instruction and choral coaching at five high schools across Dallas. She holds a BA in Vocal Performance from Hampton University, and an MM, also in Vocal Performance, from Northwestern University.
Founded in 1964, the Portland Opera is based at the Hampton Opera Center. Notably, in 2014 the company was one of the first opera organizations to start including surtitles in every production it presented.
