Poland's Poznań Philharmonic Appoints New Music Director

Polish conductor Łukasz Borowicz has been named the orchestra’s new Music Director and Chief Conductor, effective immediately

Born in Warsaw in 1977, Borowicz studied at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy where he received his doctorate in conducting.

He has previously held positions as Assistant Conductor of the Warsaw National Opera, the Warsaw Philharmonic, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra — plus Chief Conductor of the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Prior to his new appointment, he had worked extensively with the Poznań Philharmonic, having served as Chief Guest Conductor since 2006. 

Borowicz has appeared as a guest conductor with major orchestras across the UK and Europe, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover. He has also garnered acclaim for his work as a recording artist, having received numerous prizes for his over 100 recordings. 

Now recognized as a champion of rare operatic repertoire, Borowicz made his operatic debut with Don Giovanni at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw, followed by Orfeo ed Euridice, Midsummer Night's Dream and The Rite of Spring. He has also led critically-acclaimed performances of Die Zauberflöte, Rusalka, Bluebeard’s Castle, Dido and Aeneas, and Szymanowski’s King Roger.
