Prizes Awarded at American International Society of Bassists Competition

Australian double bassist Jason Henery has been awarded first prize in the solo division of the 2021 competition

A student of Hal Robinson and Edgar Meyer at the Curtis Institute of Music, Jason Henery will receive $5,000 and a number of performance opportunities at the 2023 ISB Convention. 

Second and third prizes were awarded to Nash Tomey and Jacob Warren respectively.

This year’s solo division jury comprised: Scott Dixon (Chairman), Lorraine Campet, Caroline Emery, Matthew McDonald, Joel Quarrington, and DaXun Zhang.

 

The first prize in the orchestra division was awarded to bassist Peter Hatch. Second and third prizes were awarded to Logan May and Tim Rinehardt.

This year’s orchestra division jury comprised: Andrew Raciti (Chairman), Kristen Bruya, Joe Conyers, Alex Henery, Sarah Hogan Kaiser, and Robin Kesselman.

 

The first prize in the jazz division was awarded to bassist Vincent Dupont. Second and third prizes were awarded to Cole David and Alon Near.

This year’s jazz division jury comprised: Mark Urness (Chairman), Gerald Cannon, Peter Dominguez, John Goldsby, Robert Hurst, and Marlene Rosenberg

 

The first prize in the 15 to 18-year-old category was awarded to Nicholas Boettcher. Second and third prizes were awarded to Toby Vigneau and Orion Miller.

This year’s 15 to 18-year-old division jury comprised: Mark Urness (Chairman), Gerald Cannon, Peter Dominguez, John Goldsby, Robert Hurst, and Marlene Rosenberg

 

The first prize in the youth jazz division was awarded to Andrew Vinther. Second and third prizes were awarded to Tom Gotsch and Ryan King.

The youth jazz jury comprised: Adam Booker and Miles Brown.

 

The first prize in the 14-years-old and under division was awarded to Joshua Thrush. Second and third prizes were awarded to Zichen Zhang and Yi Cheng Ding.

The 14-years-old and under division jury comprised: Kate Jones (Chair), Maggie Cox, Tianyang Liu, Jackie Pickett, Sonia Ray, and Roger Vasquez, Jr.

This year's competition was held virtually due to the global pandemic.
