17 year old American double bassist William McGregor has been awarded 1st prize at the 2017 42nd Stulberg International String Competition

17 year old American double bassist William McGregor has been awarded 1st prize at the 2017 42nd Stulberg International String Competition – in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.

A student of Albert Laszlo at the Juilliard School Pre-College Division, William will receive US $6,000 – plus a number of important performance opportunities.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 16 year old violinist Qing Yu Chen and 17 year old violinist Karisa Chiu.

The year's jury comprised David Kim, Yitzhak Schotten and Amit Peled.

Former Stulberg prize winners include Joshua Bell, Soovin Kim, Rachel Barton Pine and Jennifer Koh - and VC Artists Zeyu Victor Li, Zlatomir Fung, Matthew Lipman, and Benjamin Beilman.
