Prizes Awarded at Poland's Wajnberg International Violin Competition
29-year-old Dmitry Serebrennikov from Russia was awarded first prize at the 2021 Wajnberg International Violin Competition in Katowice, Poland
A graduate of the Lausanne University of Music and the Bern University of Arts, where he studied with Pierre Amoyal and jury member Bartek Niziol, Dmitry is currently a member of the Zurich Opera House Orchestra. He was awarded €5,000.
27-year-old Christine Bernsted from Denmark and 22-year-old Sara Dragan from Poland were awarded second and third prizes respectively.

The competition was founded in honor of Polish composer Mieczysław Weinberg, whose legacy was discovered after a revival concert series at the 2010 Bregenz Festival in Austria. Today, he is regarded as one of the greatest Polish composers of the 20th century, alongside Karol Szymanowski, Witold Lutosławski, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, and Krzysztof Penderecki.
The 2021 jury comprised Szymon Krzeszowiec (Chairman), Andreas Vierziger, Bartłomiej Nizioł, Maria Sławek, Aleksander Trostiansky, and VC Artist Jennifer Pike.
