Prizewinners Announced at Italy's International String Quartet Competition "Premio Paolo Borciani"
The Fibonacci Quartet (United Kingdom/Spain) won First Prize and receive €25,000, as well as a tour and a residency
The thirteenth edition of the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition, held in Italy's Reggio Emilia province, recently came to a close.
First Prize went to the Fibonacci Quartet (United Kingdom/Spain), who received a cash prize of €25,000. They will also undertake an international tour organized by Lorenzo Baldrighi Artist Management, as well as an artistic residency in Reggio Emilia in the coming seasons.
Second Prize of €10,000 went to the Eden Quartet (South Korea), while Third Prize of €5,000 went to the Elmore Quartet (United Kingdom).
In 2024, the competition jury comprised Sonia Simmenauer (President), Lorenza Borrani, Kim Kashkashian, Garth Knox, Jonas Krejci, John Myerscough, and Abel Tomás.
Comprising Luna de Mol and Kryštof Kohout (violins), Elliot Kempton (viola), and Findlay Spence (cello), the Fibonacci Quartet is presently Resident Ensemble at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid and at the Dutch String Quartet Academy in Amsterdam.
The group received First Prize in the Royal Overseas League International Chamber Music Competition, as well as First Prize in the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition and First Prize in the International Triomphe de l’Art Competition in Belgium.
