ON THIS DAY | Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 1 Premiered in 1923
Inspired by Karol Szymanowski's "Myths," Prokofiev composed the concerto's opening melody in 1915 during his love affair with Nina Mescherskay
1917 was Prokofiev's most productive year compositionally, and his first Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major was one of his most recognized works of this period.
The first performance was given by violinist Marcel Darrieux, in collaboration with conductor Serge Koussevitzky and The Paris Opera.
