The city council of Rome has announced the renaming of its Parco della Musica Auditorium - in honour of Italian composer Ennio Morricone

The city council of Rome has this week announced the renaming of its famed Parco della Musica Auditorium - in honour of film music composer Ennio Morricone.

The Oscar Award-winning Italian film composer and conductor died earlier this month - aged 91.

Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi has announced the multifunctional outdoor arts venue will now be officially known as the 'Ennio Morricone Auditorium'.

"We want to remember a genius who gave so much to Rome and Italy - linking his name to an international symbol of culture and art," Ms Raggi has this week said.
