San Francisco Symphony Updates COVID-19 Safety Protocols
Like many orchestras around the country, recent regulations are requiring patrons to provide either proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result
The ensemble returned to live performances this May, after more than a year due to the pandemic. In June, no such rules were in place and venues were opened to full capacity. However recent updates were made in accordance with health and safety guidelines from the City and County of San Francisco and the Symphony’s Health & Safety Task Force — coming into effect as of August 6, 2021.
The new regulations will apply to audience members attending live performances at the Davies Symphony Hall this month. If a negative COVID-19 test result is provided, it must have been received no more than 72 hours before a concert.
Existing guidelines such as face masks will remain — they are to be worn at all times — and the performance spaces will be cleaned according to health and safety regulations.
The updated protocols come after a surge in COVID cases in the San Francisco Bay Area last week. New safety measures have been employed by many organizations including San Francisco Opera and the Metropolitan Opera.
