The Vienna Symphony Orchestra has today announced the appointment of 37-year-old German violinist Sophie Heinrich as its new First Concertmaster - effective from May 2019.
A graduate of the Stuttgart Music Academy, Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ and the Musikhochschule Lübec, Sophie currently serves as First Concertmaster of the Komische Oper Berlin.
"It’s a dream comes true … I am looking forward to Vienna … to the exciting new job with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and especially to playing music together with my new colleagues and working with Philippe Jordan and Andrés Orozco-Estrada," Sophie has said.
She will replace violinist Florian Zwiauer - who is set to retire from the ensemble at the end of the current season.
