Edinburgh International Festival Accepting String Applications
This paid opportunity is open to five international pre-professional level string players, with the application deadline on June 9, 2023
The Edinburgh International Festival is inviting applications from pre-professional string players — three violinists, one violist, and one cellist — through an open international audition process for Mendelssohn’s Octet in E major, Op. 20.
The candidates will be selected by Edinburgh International Festival Director, Nicola Benedetti, and have the chance to work with VC Artist Stefan Jackiw, Jessica Bodner, and VC Artist Sterling Elliott for a live performance of the Octet at the Festival on August 10, 2023.
To remove financial barriers to participation, this program is a paid, professional opportunity, where travel and accommodation will also be provided. The rehearsal and performance fee is £500.
Candidates must be of conservatoire level standard and not already part of a recognized and existing chamber group that performs professionally. Additionally, they must be available for rehearsal between August 7–9, 2023, for the performance on August 10.
To apply, click here. The deadline is June 9, 2023, and successful applicants will be contacted by late June.
Application requirements are a video audition of the first movement of a Classical or early Romantic concerto or sonata, which must be sent as a private link with a CV and study details to Music and Scheduling coordinator Kirsty Hughes, at [email protected].
