The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced the appointment of Chinese-Canadian violist Teng Li as its new Principal Viola
The Los Angeles Philharmonic has this week announced the appointment of Chinese-Canadian violist Teng Li as its new Principal Viola - effective immediately.
A graduate of the Central Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music, Teng is a former major prize winner at Primrose and ARD International Viola Competitions – and has served as principal violist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 2004.
"I'm looking forward to exploring new creative territory with the Los Angeles Philharmonic ... I really admire the musicians and work they're doing - it's an incredibly innovative ensemble," Teng has told The Violin Channel.
"We are very pleased to welcome Teng Li to the Los Angeles Philharmonic family ..." Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel has said.
"Her remarkable artistry and well demonstrated talent make her a perfect fit for the orchestra," he has said.
Teng will replace Carrie Dennis as section leader – who stepped down from the orchestra in June of last year.
