Lithuanian theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore was born on this day in 1911 – 108 years ago.

A violin child prodigy, she studied with acclaimed pedagogue Leopold Auer before transferring her learnings to the theremin - an electronic musical instrument, invented in the 1920s, controlled by oscillating metal antenna hand proximity.
