London’s Royal Opera House Announces New Joint-Principal Cellist

The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden has announced the appointment of British cellist Tim Hugh as its new Joint-Principal Cellist

The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden has this week announced the appointment of British cellist Tim Hugh as its new Joint-Principal Cellist - effective from the commencement of the 2019/2020 season.

A graduate of Yale University and St Johns College, Cambridge, where he studied with Aldo Parisot, William Pleeth and Jacqueline du Pre, Tim has served as Principal Cellist with the London Symphony Orchestra since 1995.

“I think it's natural for musicians to want to play a wide variety of music and I've been lucky to play all the solo repertoire, most of the larger chamber repertoire and virtually all the orchestral repertoire …” Tim has told The Violin Channel.

“The operatic repertoire is almost all new to me … but where better to experience it than the Royal Opera House,” the 58-year-old has said.
