Two String Players Retire from the BBC Symphony Orchestra 

Violinist Danny Meyer and violist Audrey Henning joined the orchestra in 1986 and 1992, respectively

Following the final 2023 BBC Proms performance earlier this month, BBC Symphony Orchestra (BBCSO) second violinist Daniel “Danny” Meyer and violist Audrey Henning announced their respective retirements.

Meyer studied violin and conducting at the Royal College of Music for five years, after which he played with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and joined the BBCSO as the No. 3 second violinist in 1986.

Additionally, he has been chairman of the Orchestra’s Players’ Committee, and the Musicians Union Steward; from 2011 to 2021, he was the chair of the MU/BBC Orchestras Committee and of the Orchestral Section of the Musicians Union. 

Henning has spent the past 40 years as a professional viola player and joined the BBCSO in 1992. She has also played with the BBC Philharmonic, Liverpool Philharmonic, and the SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation).
