VC YOUNG ARTIST | Timothy Ridout, 21 - Lionel Tertis International Viola Comp 1st Prize

British violist Timothy Ridout is quickly building an international reputation as a young string instrumentalist of outstanding potential

Since winning 1st Prize in the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition in 2016, 22 year old British violist, Timothy Ridout has gone on to perform widely internationally, building a reputation as a young string instrumentalist of outstanding potential.

A graduate of London's Royal Academy of Music, he studied with Martin Outram and was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Excellence. He is now a student of Nobuko Imai at the Kronberg Academy after winning the Young Classical Artists Trust in 2016.

Timothy’s 2018/19 solo engagements include a residency with the Baden-Baden Philharmonie, and solo appearances with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, Orchestre de Lille, Camerata Salzburg and Philharmonia Orchestra. 

Recently, he has returned to London’s Wigmore Hall in addition to debut recitals in Japan's Musashino Hall, Nagoya's Munetsugu Hall, and a performance of George Benjamin's Viola, Viola at the Southbank Centre. He has appeared with the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, London Mozart Players and Sinfonia Cymru (directed by Gabor Takács-Nagy). In 2017, Champs Hill released his first CD of music by Vieuxtemps to critical acclaim.  

Sought after as a chamber musician over the last year, Timothy has collaborated with Steven Isserlis, Joshua Bell, Jeremy Denk, the Quatuor Arod and Nash Ensemble, and gives recitals at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Sommets Musicaux Festival Gstaad, Heidelberger-Frühling Festival, Kilkenny Festival and Septembre Musical Festival in Montreux. He has taken part in the Heimbach Spannung, Valdres Sommersymfoni, Boswil and Musikdorf Ernen Festivals, and undertaken projects at the Musikverein (Vienna), International Chamber Music Series at the Southbank, the Louvre and Salle Cortot (Paris).

He currently performs on a 1565 Pergerino di Zanetto viola - on generous loan from the Beares International Violin Society.

Timothy currently has management representation by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT).
