22-year-old violinist Ashley Park from the United States has been awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Competition - in Poughkeepsie, New York.
A student of Ronald Copes and Joel Smirnoff at The Juilliard School, Ashley will receive US $4,000, a solo performance engagement with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic - plus a debut recital debut at the Musical Landscape of Tuscany Festival, in Italy.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 25-year-old violist Ao Peng from South Korea - and 24-year-old violinist Chener Yuan from China.
Open to international violinists, violists and cellists aged 18-25, the 2019 jury comprised: Randall Craig-Fleischer, Fred Sherry and Carole Cowan.
Previous prize winners include: Nobuko Imai, Fred Sherry, Ani Kavafian, Laurie Smukler, Karen Dreyfus, and Arnaud Sussmann.
