String Category Winner Announced at BBC ‘Young Musician of the Year’ Awards
Violinist Coco Tomita has been awarded 1st prize in the string category final of the 2020 BBC ‘Young Musician of the Year’ awards
17-year-old Japanese violinist, Coco Tomita has this week been awarded 1st prize in the string category final of the 2020 BBC ‘Young Musician of the Year’ awards - in London.
A student of Natasha Boyarsky at the Menuhin School, Coco will now join the other 2020 instrumental category winners in the Semi-Final stage of the competition – to be held in November of this year.
She will go up against percussionist Fang Zhang, pianist Thomas Luke, oboist Ewan Millar and French horn player Annemarie Federle in the next stage of the competition.
Widely regarded as the UK’s leading competition for young classical music soloists, previous winners include violinist Nicola Benedetti and Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
