26-year-old Australian violinist Emily Sun has been announced as the 2018 Australian ‘ABC Young Performer of the Year’
26-year-old Australian violinist Emily Sun has just minutes ago been announced as the 2018 Australian ‘ABC Young Performer of the Year’ – in Sydney, Australia.
Regarded as Australia’s most prestigious classical music prize for instrumentalists 30 years and younger, she will receive a AUD $30,000 cash prize, $50,000 scholarship, a CD recording, an ABC Classic FM Artist-in-Residence appointment – plus a number of important domestic solo engagements.
In addition she was awarded the AUD $25,000 YMF Award for the 'Best Semi-Final Recital', plus the Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestra Prizes - and the Sydney City and Melbourne Recital Centre Prizes.

A graduate of London's Royal College of Music where she studied with Itzhak Rashkovsky, and current Artist-in-Residence at Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth where she is mentored by Augustin Dumay, Emily is a former major prize winner at the Brahms and Lipizer International Violin Competitions.
Previous Australian 'Young Performers of the Year' include international string soloists: Adele Anthony, Liwei Qin and VC Young Artist Suyeon Kang.
