Naxos Records has announced the release of American violinist Eric Grossman's new album: Ferdinand Ries Sonatas for Violin & Piano.
Recorded with pianist Susan Kagan, the new disc features German composer Ferdinand Ries' (1784-1838) Violin Sonatas in E-Flat Major Op. 18, G Minor Op. 38 and No. 3 D Major Op. 83.
"My colleague, Susan Kagan, in recent years discovered Ries’s piano sonatas, which had been published but were mostly unknown ... with a little further digging, we discovered the similarly unknown violin sonatas - published in old editions and similarly neglected ..." Eric has told The Violin Channel.
"As Beethoven’s student and devoted friend, Ferdinand Ries developed an original and attractive style that brought together the Classical ideal and the new trends heralding the Romantic period ..." he has said.
"His music successfully brings together the Viennese classical tradition and the novelties of 19th-Century music."
