Veteran London-Based Violinist Erich Gruenberg Has Passed Away - Aged 95 [RIP]

Austrian-born British violinist Erich Gruenberg has passed away - aged 95

Austrian-born British violinist Erich Gruenberg has passed away - aged 95.

A former 1st prize winner at the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition, throughout his career Mr Gruenberg served as Concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - and held a long term Professorship on faculty at the Royal Academy of Music.

"As well as leading the LSO in the era of Pierre Monteux, Jascha Horenstein and many other conductors, he was also an eminent soloist and chamber musician in his own right, and an inspirational teacher ... our thoughts are with his wife Korshed and daughters Joanna and Tina and with the rest of his family at this sad time," a spokesperson from the London Symphony has this week said.

Our condolences to Mr Gruenberg's family, friends, students and colleagues.
