Violist Tabea Zimmermann Awarded €250,000 Siemens Music Bursary

German violist Tabea Zimmermann has been awarded the 2020 International Ernst von Siemens Music Prize - in Munich, Germany

It has been announced this week that acclaimed German violist Tabea Zimmermann has been awarded the prestigious 2020 International Ernst von Siemens Music Prize - in Munich, Germany.

Awarded annually since 1974 by the Bavarian Academy of Fine Art to a composer, performer or musicologist who has made a distinguished contribution to the world of music, Tabea will receive €250,000 to help further her work.

Tabea is a former 1st prize winner at the Geneva and Budapest International Competitions - and currently serves a Professorship on faculty at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler' and the Kronberg Academy.

Previous recipients include violinists Yehudi Menuhin, Gidon Kremer and Anne-Sophie Mutter, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, conductors Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Mariss Jansons and Claudio Abbado - and composer Gyorgy Ligeti.
