He is widely regarded as one of the foremost international violists, performing regularly with the world’s finest orchestras and conductors

Today is Russian violist Yuri Bashmet’s 69th birthday.

Mr Bashmet is the founder of the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra, and has been the dedicatee of over 50 new viola works – including concerti by Sofia Gubaidulina and Alfred Schnittke.
